I took two days off from work to move the Cummins over.  You could say I am dead serious about doing this right, and getting the truck done  for some summertime 5th-wheel hauling.

My goal, aggressive or not, was to have the motor out of the `93 and into the Dually Crew by 5pm on the second day.   Time was precious and I needed to do quality work.  It was completely uncertain where I would end up, but 5pm was my goal.

Day 1 was mostly spent getting the engine and transmission out.  It was quite a chore, requiring some creative wiggling and significant use of the Tilt Lift mechanism on the hoist hook.

Day 2 was spent cleaning the transmission and re-sealing all of the plugs and fittings.  Then I maneuvered the engine into the bay of the `92 Dually Crew Cab.

The motor mounts were different from `93 back to the `82 Truck frame.  However, the passenger side (PS) mount pad (welded to the frame) had an engine mount hole in a location identical to that of the `93.  See next two photos.

On the driver’s side (DR) of the `93, there was a smaller pad welded to the frame, with a bolted on-extension for the Cummins mount.  Luckily, the `82 frame had a very wide driver’s side engine mount pad.  I only had to extend an existing hole into a slot, to permit the bolt of the rubber motor mount to slide down into the frame.  No welding or difficult fabrication required.

When all was said and done, the Cummins was in the frame of the Dually Crew on the second day at 4:49pm.  Success!

I was very fortunate to have the assistance of my neighbor, “Mr. MPG”.   Thanks!  Just don’t give him any guff!
